Summarize:

Sander Janca-Jensen is the man behind Flatpay, which in just two years is well on its way to becoming one of the biggest business successes in recent Danish history — built on complete transparency for employees and customers alike. Flatpay has raised EUR 58 million in two years, expects to process transactions worth more than EUR 3 billion this year, and is aiming to reach 20,000 customers in 2024.

Openness as the biggest driving force

Sander Janca-Jensen has always prioritised openness and an inclusive working culture — values that also extend to Flatpay’s customers, who have often been trapped in a payments industry riddled with hidden fees.

“I am proud of Flatpay and see us as living proof that openness can drive a company to success. The industry still lacks transparency, both towards colleagues and customers — and hidden fees and unreasonable terms create neither happy customers nor happy employees. Our mission is to change the payments industry so that small and medium-sized businesses get the same terms as the big players,” says Sander Janca-Jensen, CEO of Flatpay.

Tired of the reverse-Robin-Hood structure in the payments industry

Over the course of his career, Sander has reached many milestones, taking the helm at an early age as sales director and later deputy director at two large companies. The path to the next big executive job was just around the corner, but Sander instead decided to found his own company focused on small and medium-sized businesses — and that is how Flatpay came about.

“Why is there actually no flat pricing structure in the payments industry? I wondered why it was so often a reverse-Robin-Hood structure that prevailed. The largest companies got the most favourable prices, while the smallest were left with worse deals, more hidden fees and almost non-existent customer service. There simply are not the same business terms for SMEs in the industry, and that is what led me to found Flatpay,” says Sander.

Well on the way to 20,000 customers in 2024

Today Flatpay operates in countries such as Finland, Germany, Italy and, of course, Denmark. And even though Flatpay is well on its way to reaching its goal of more than 20,000 customers this year, there are other areas that Sander is particularly proud of.

“I have made my closest friendships through my working life — and I did, after all, start Flatpay with three former colleagues. I have always regarded employees as friends, not just staff. It meant a lot to me that this should be the cornerstone of Flatpay — and it is probably one of the reasons we have moved so significantly in just two years. That is what I am most proud of.”
