Summarize:

German footballer and former World Cup winner Mario Götze has set his sights on the Danish company Flatpay, which helps business owners with a payment solution that is easy to understand and free of hidden fees.

When Mario Götze scored the decisive winning goal against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final, few would have guessed that just under ten years later he would have invested in a Danish company. That is nonetheless the case — and the reason for it makes good sense.

Flatpay wants to revolutionise a market dominated by large players that hold the majority of the market share. That means small merchants do not always get the best service, and hidden fees are widespread.

“We are very pleased to have Mario Götze join Flatpay’s journey. It was not necessarily something we anticipated when we started the company in 2022, but we are glad he can see the potential in Flatpay and help make everyday life easier for the small merchants who form the backbone of the Danish economy,” says Sander Janca-Jensen, CEO of Flatpay.

2024 has started at full speed

With the investment from Mario Götze, there is no doubt that Flatpay is looking into an extremely exciting 2024. The company already expects to process transactions worth more than EUR 1 billion in 2024.

“We have been very busy at the start of the new year. Many businesses may have underestimated how extensive it is to switch to a digital POS-system. We can certainly see there is a need for an alternative to the legacy payment providers and over the past month we have received more than 20 enquiries a day from companies that need our help,” says Sander Janca-Jensen.
