Summarize:

Fintech company Flatpay has just secured a new capital injection of EUR 58 million in a Series C round. The investment, led by both existing and new international investors, is its second in just one year. Back in April 2024, Flatpay raised DKK 335 million in a Series B round led by Britain’s Dawn Capital.

In a short time, Flatpay has transformed from a Danish start-up into a European scale-up, and the new capital will be used to accelerate its expansion across Europe. Germany in particular has been a growth engine, now with almost 200 local employees, and expectations for European growth in the coming years are high:

“We have crossed an important milestone and now have more customers abroad than in Denmark. That means we have truly taken the step from being a Danish start-up to a European scale-up. Our ambitions are big, and they require capital. That is why we are pleased that both new and existing investors believe in our mission,” says Sander Janca-Jensen, CEO and founder of Flatpay.

Flatpay began as a provider of payment terminals with a flat percentage rate per transaction regardless of card type. Since then, the product portfolio has expanded to include digital POS-systems and, most recently, online payment solutions for web shops. The new capital will also go towards expanding the product range further to help small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in Europe.

“There are millions of SMEs in Europe, and our experience is that they lack better payment products and tools to keep track of their business. We will therefore boost our investment in product development and create more innovative solutions aimed at this target group,” adds Sander Janca-Jensen.

At the time of writing, Flatpay has 500 employees and expects to reach 1,200 by the end of 2025. Most of the new positions will be outside Denmark’s borders, with a particular focus on Germany.

“Talented employees are the core of our success, and we look forward to welcoming many new colleagues every single month. It is a unique growth journey we are on — and we are only just getting started,” concludes Sander Janca-Jensen.

Flatpay plans to open in one or two new European markets each year over the coming years.
