Summarize:

In four years, Flatpay has established itself in seven European countries and counts more than 100,000 customers. In France, where the company opened in January 2025, it is posting one of the fastest growth trajectories in its history.

Flatpay, the Danish fintech specialising in payment solutions for small and medium-sized businesses, today announces that Antoine Griezmann is joining as an investor. The investment by the 2018 World Cup winner comes as the company crosses the 10,000 active customers milestone in France, just eighteen months after opening its doors there. Founded in Denmark in 2022, Flatpay operates in seven European countries, serves more than 100,000 merchants and reached unicorn status in 2025 with a valuation of €1.5 billion.

A model built around the merchant

Card payments still represent a significant share of friction for French local businesses: opaque fees, long installation lead times and limited customer service availability. Flatpay has built its model as a direct response to these major pain points. The company offers payment terminals and point-of-sale systems tailored to the specific needs of SMEs, with a single flat rate, no installation fees, no hidden charges, and payouts made every business day.

Every account opening comes with a complete personal on-site installation and round-the-clock customer support, delivered by teams based in France. The model relies on field sales teams operating on the ground, in direct contact with merchants, to understand their needs and support them as closely as possible in their day-to-day operations.

In eighteen months, this approach has won over more than 10,000 merchants in France, including restaurateurs, local shops and cafés. In six months, the number of customers has doubled, with more than 1,000 new merchants joining Flatpay every month — 40% of them arriving on the recommendation of another customer. Flatpay today employs 367 people in France and is actively continuing its expansion, with the goal of reaching 500 employees by the end of the year.

“Our mission in France is to make our merchants’ daily lives easier when it comes to payments, so they can focus on their business. The growth we are seeing shows that we are meeting a real need. Antoine Griezmann grew up in a family of merchants and sincerely believes in what we are building; having him by our side is a source of pride and a strong signal that reflects our ambitions for France,” said Rachelle Mezher, Managing Director France, Flatpay.

Antoine Griezmann, an investor rooted in the world of merchants

It is in this world that Antoine Griezmann has chosen to invest. Through his career and his entrepreneurial ventures, he knows how important it is to surround oneself with reliable partners in order to grow a business: his family is today directly involved in the local business ecosystem, and his sister is herself a Flatpay customer.

Beyond his sporting career, Antoine Griezmann is also involved in other business projects, such as Grizi Cards, whose first physical store will open soon in Madrid. His investment in Flatpay therefore reflects a conviction-driven choice: to support a company whose mission addresses a real need for merchants and entrepreneurs, in a sector he understands closely through those around him and his own commitments.

“Through my family and my own projects, I see every day what it takes to run and grow a business. Whether on the football pitch or off it, I have always sought to commit to concrete projects driven by a clear vision. Flatpay addresses a real problem faced by thousands of merchants in France, and it is exactly the kind of company I wanted to get involved with and that I want to support,” said Antoine Griezmann.

An accelerating trajectory, with the French market at the heart of its ambitions

Flatpay’s rise in France is part of a broader growth dynamic. Since its launch, the company has successively established itself in seven European markets, refining its model at each stage. Each new market posts faster growth than the previous one, and Flatpay is currently recording total growth of more than 10% each month at European level.

In 2025, Flatpay reached a valuation of €1.5 billion, becoming the fastest Danish start-up ever to reach unicorn status. The company today employs more than 2,000 people worldwide, having doubled its headcount over the past ten months.
